With
a name like The Nature Place Day Camp it would be
right to assume that we are a nature camp. Nature
is definitely a very big part of many of the
things we do. We have a gardening program with
access to one of the largest organic and
biodynamic farms in the Northeast. Visitors share
many kinds of animals. Our hiking and camping
experiences take us to breathtaking natural
areas. Ed Bieber and other professional
naturalists and environmental educators work
directly with campers every day. Our weekly
themes are based on the natural world. We strive
to be Earth Friendly by recycling leftover snack
and lunch scraps by feeding them to the chickens; and practicing minimal
impact camping skills on our outdoor adventures.
We hire people with a sensitivity to children and
to nature. We try to weave nature throughout all
of our activities in a way that makes sense, i.e.
harvesting fresh garden produce for making fresh
salsa in cooking; collecting natural treasures
during an outdoor exploration for later use in
art; tuning in to nature's rhythms then
translating them through drumming, movement, etc.
This kind of connecting is evident in all of our
programs. Planning and careful coordination are
behind making each week a cohesive unit. |

All of our
campers and their families are seeking a summer
alternative where:
- Sports
are not the main attraction
- The
camp is ACA accredited
- A
non-competitive philosophy is followed
throughout
- Staff
is warm, experienced and competent
- A
child's sense of wonder is nurtured
- A
child-centered approach is evident
- The
director has been working directly with
children for over three decades
- Safety
is the top priority
- There
are beautiful indoor and outdoor
facilities
- Attention
is paid to details
